I was hesitant about seeking out a doula for my second birth, but it was by far the best decision I have ever made for myself and for my family. Akua guided me through every aspect of my pregnancy, labor and post-partom experience. She is a wealth of knowledge and imparted valuable information that I wish I had been aware of during my first pregnancy. She provided wonderful props and handouts and facilitated important conversations with my partner.
Having Akua in my corner in the last few weeks of my pregnancy was vital in helping me advocate for the non-medicated birth that I wanted. When we arrived at the hospital, she helped my partner and I efficiently communicate our needs to staff. During labor she provided massage, water and calming words of encouragement. She is extremely intuitive, and seamlessly provided what I needed, when I needed it, without a word exchanged. I honestly cannot express how grateful I am for her presence in the delivery room.
Postpartum, Akua helped with laundry, meals and appointments, but beyond all of that she is wonderful company. Having a nonjudgmental space to discuss all things birth and non-birth related was so helpful for my recovery.

We went over all my wants and expectations for labor and delivery. She gave me tools to help mentally and physically prepare for L&D. When the time came, she was a ROCK for me.

“Since this was our first baby and our first time working with a doula we weren’t sure what to expect, but Akua had a good pulse on where to provide materials and where to hold open discussion and this helped us feel less overwhelmed by all of the information.
I was concerned about creating a birth plan and didn’t know where to begin. Akua provided samples and a template to use that allowed us to communicate what our preferences were to the providers supporting my pregnancy and birth.
I felt that Akua’s style of being present but not overly involved was most suitable for my husband and I. We would meet for 2-3 hours for prenatal visits but only text or email in between. I think Akua’s calming nature is what got me through 3 days of laboring.
As the hours went on and my contractions grew stronger, I checked in with Akua frequently and she was available to me all hours of the night to provide guidance and encouragement. I will never forget the way she helped me breath through the most difficult peak of my labor and held my hand and rubbed my back to help keep me from feeling defeated when my preferences were not playing out the way I had planned. I have recommended and would recommend doula services to anyone planning a pregnancy or expecting a baby”
